Srinagar, Dec 17: Hundreds of Batamaloo residents in Srinagar today poured on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway and blocked it for hours to protest against the Power Development Department for its failure to provide them electricity in chilling winter.
Agitated residents from Nund Reshi, Alamdar, and Firdousabad colonies alleged that the PDD was resorting to frequent electricity curtailment in the area which has caused immense hardships to them in harsh winter.
The residents also alleged that PDD was serving them electricity bills but didn’t provide electricity.
The residents had laid logs and big stones across the two-way road in Bemina which caused heavy traffic jam from Bemina to Parimpora.
As the protestors refused to remove blockade, police swung into action and resorted to mild cane-charging. The protesters dispersed after police intervention.
