Gujjars allege discrimination with community officers

JAMMU, Dec 17: Representatives of several Gujjar organizations have accused the Government of discriminating with the officers of the community posted in various departments.
A delegation of representatives of Gujjar organizations, which visited the EXCELSIOR office today, said that Government was adopting different yardstick for the officers of the community posted in different departments and was denying them their due rights.
“The officers/officials of this community are being compelled to run from pillar to post to get their rightful benefits”, they said.
Citing an example of Shahnaz Akhter, presently posted as Assistant Commissioner General Jammu, they said, “despite directions of the High Court issued earlier this year, she has not been provided justice till date, which exposes the discriminatory attitude of the Government towards the community officers”.
Shahnaz Akhter, during her posting as Project Officer, Watershed (Haryali), Rajouri had filed a petition seeking directions for inclusion of her name in the final seniority list of Project Managers in the Industries and Commerce Department after deleting her name from the final seniority list of Functional Managers.
She was also seeking direction to the respondents to induct her name in the Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) with effect from July 22, 2008 under the Scheduled Tribe Category with all consequential benefits.
While allowing her petition, the High Court had directed the respondents to examine her case and pass appropriate orders within a period of three months but astonishingly there has been no compliance till date.
