SRINAGAR, Dec 18: National Environmental Science Academy (NESA) has awarded two renowned faculty members of Kashmir University with its highest award – Fellowship of the Year 2013.
In a similar development, two Ph D scholars of KU have obtained 1st and 2nd positions for having presented “Best Paper” and “Best Poster”, respectively in International Conference on Green India.
Director Centre of Research for Development (CORD) and Head Department of Environmental Sciences, KU, Prof Bashir Ahmad Ganai and Prof Azra N Kamili, faculty member CORD and Department of Environmental Sciences, have been conferred with the National Environmental Science Academy, (NESA) New Delhi`s highest award – Fellowship of the Year 2013.
The award (comprising the Gold Medal, citation and plaque) was jointly presented by Prof Mohd Aslam Vice-Chancellor IGNOU and Dr G N Qazi, Vice-Chancellor Jamia Hamdard New Delhi, to Prof Ganai and Prof Kamili.
Prof Ganai has been awarded on the basis of his achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of Environmental Biochemistry and Medicinal Plant Research whereas Prof Kamili has been awarded on the basis of her achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of Botany and Environmental Science.
Professor Ganai is Doctorate in Bio-Chemistry and is presently involved in molecular oncology. He has published so far about 100 international papers and eight books besides having produced more than 30 research scholars.
Prof Azra Kamili has 119 research papers and seven books to her credit.
Meanwhile, two Ph D scholars of PG Department of Environmental Science and CORD KU, Sayar Yaseen and Nuzhat Sahai have obtained 1st and 2nd positions respectively for having presented “Best Paper” and “Best Poster” in International Conference on “Green India: Strategic Knowledge for combating climate change: Prospects & Challenges” (GISKCCC-2013) organized by Pondicherry University from 5-7 December 2013.
