Srinagar, Dec 19 : High Court today directed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range to re-constitute the Special Investigation Team (SIT) within two days to investigate the killing of two youths in 2010 police firing at Khanabal in Anantnag district.
Justice Ali Mohammad Magray directed the police to submit compliance report regarding the re-constitution of SIT on Saturday.
Police on the court’s direction had earlier constituted a SIT to inquire into the killings, which the police had complied with and formed a SIT team comprising DSP Tanveer Jeelani, Sub inspector Mohammad Yousuf and Assistant SI Mohammad Maqbool.
But the petitioners, family members of the victim, rejected the SIT, saying the team consisted same members who were part of the earlier SIT.
The petitioners have sought directions from the court to the police to constitute a team other than the officers who were already involved in the said investigation.
Two youth, Bilal Ahmad Najar and Noor-ul-Amin Dagga, were allegedly killed in police firing in 2010 public unrest when they were purportedly waiting outside a Masjid at Khanabal for offering funeral prayers of a student, Maroof Ahmad Shah, who had drowned after forces allegedly had chased some person in September 2010.
The court had earlier directed the SIT should be headed by a police officer who should not be below the rank of Superintendent of Police.
