Energy Conservation Week at GCET concludes

JAMMU, Dec 20: The Government College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu observed Energy Conservation Week from December 14 to December 20, 2013 at Chak Bhalwal Campus to create awareness on the importance of Energy Conservation. The weeklong celebrations were inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone.
The celebration aimed to provide a platform for exchange of ideas between student community and expert panelists so that more energy conserving ways are adopted in day to day life and new energy efficient technologies can be introduced for the overall development of the country.
The institute has organized various competitions such as Slogan writing, Poster making, Debates and Paper presentation on the theme topic “Emerging Trends in Energy Efficiency – Opportunities and Challenges” during this week. Nearly 3000 students from different colleges/ schools participated in these events. The students under the supervision of GCET faculty, Rajiv Bali visited the nearby villages of Chak Bhalwal, Marjali and educated the local populace about the judicious use of electricity to conserve energy.
A.K. Mehta, Principal Secretary Power Development Department was the chief guest on the valedictory function while Er. D.S Pawar, Member SERC J&K government was the Guest of Honour. He stressed upon the students to be ethical and adopt professionalism among themselves. Pawar explained about the electricity act and various means of energy conservation.
The chief guest distributed the trophies among the winners and participants of the various events organized during the week. In debate competition under senior students category, the first prize was won by Mehak Gupta, second by Dhrivika Pandita and third prize by Arun Sharma of GCET. In Slogan writing competition under senior students category, first prize was won by Keshav Gupta, second prize shared by Ankush and Sukriti Mahajan, third prize by Nancy Rani of GCET. In Paper presentation category, Akshita Sharma of MIET Jammu won the first position, Sahil Sharma of GCET won second position and Sheriya Sareen of GCW, Gandhi Nagar bagged third position.
Principal GCET Dr. Sameru Sharma highlighted the aim of organizing such an event.
