BILLAWAR, Dec 21: Department of Mathematics, Govt Degree College Billawar celebrated National Mathematics Day by organizing a symposium on the topic “Recent Advancements in Mathematics and its Applications”, today.
Er Deep Raj, SDM Billawar, chief guest of the function inaugurated the symposium by lighting the lamp. Dr Darshana J Prajapati, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, MBICT, New Valabh, Vidyanagar, Gujarat, was the guest of honour.
Prof B L Gupta, Principal, Government Degree College, Billawar, welcomed all the guests and threw light on the work of Ramanujan and asked the students to get inspiration from him and his work and gave the brief introduction of the function. Dr Darshana J Prajapati delivered an expert talk on topic “Linear Algebra and its Applications”. She explained the applications of Linear Algebra in Fractal Theory which is the latest research area in Mathematics.
First prize was bagged by Shabnam Akhter, BSc-III, second prized was bagged by Ajay Singh, BSc.-III and third prized was bagged by Manvi Gupta, BSc-I on their Power Point presentations on the topics “Role of Mathematics Against Terrorism”, “Importance of Ancient and Vedic Mathematics” and “Connections Between Math and Music” respectively.
Prof Shobha Gupta, Prof Isha Gupta and Dr Darshana Prajapati acted as judges. Prof Sanjeev Gupta, Prof Rakesh Sharma, Prof Yash Paul and other staff members were present. Dr Amit Singh, HoD Mathematics, presented vote of thanks to all those who contributed in one way or the other to make this symposium a success.
