Temp 9 degrees below normal

JAMMU, Dec 21:  While the entire northern region has come under the grip of cold wave and fog, Jammu’s temperature has gone nearly 9 degrees below normal whereas, the dense fog and haze has badly hit the train, air and vehicular traffic in the region.
The mercury has considerably gone down in last couple of days in the region while in plain areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua, dense fog has badly affected the train and vehicular traffic. Two flights were  cancelled today while three flights remained suspended on Friday in view of poor visibility and bad weather.
SP Airport Jammu Ashok Sharma disclosed that most of flight arriving from  Delhi were late by two to three hours while two morning flights of Go Air and Indigo were cancelled due to dense fog. Most of the outgoing flights were rescheduled for various other destinations. The copter service at Katra Mata Vaishnodevi-Sanji Chhat also remained suspended in view of poor visibility.
Chief Scientist and Head Agro-Meteorology Deptt of  SKUAST-J,  Dr B C Sharma when contacted said that Chatha observatory of Jammu recorded a minimum day temperature of  11.0 degrees Celsius which is  over 9 degrees below the normal temperature. He said the night temperature is also below 2 degree of the normal temperature. But tomorrow the day temperature would improve and there will be less fog as compared to today and yesterday. He also predicted light rain at the higher reaches of Jammu region and rain and snowfall in several parts of Kashmir region including Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg hill resorts.
Almost all the trains were late by two to seven hours and the timings of many trains was rescheduled. Huge rush of passengers was witnessed at the Jammu railway station due to late departure of many trains in view of fog and bad weather. The vehicular traffic has also been badly affected due to dense fog in plain areas. Several mishaps were reported on the national highway due to fog since last night.
