JAMMU, Aug 8: Thirteen students of KC Public School attended Welham Boys School Model United Nations Conference (WELMUN–2023) in Dehradun.
The conference was attended by delegates from 26 eminent schools from India such as Mayo College Ajmer, Doon School Dehradun, Welham Girls’ School Dehradun, Sunbeam School Lahartara, Pinegrove School Solan and Daly College Indore.
The opening ceremony was graced by Radhika Jha, Secretary to the State of Uttarakhand who has earned a name for herself as one of the top 50 effective Indian bureaucrats for creating new benchmarks of performance in Public Service. In her opening speech, she motivated the young minds to pursue successful careers and achieve their dream destinations.
The delegates were allotted places on different committees such as UNSC, UNW, DISEC, Lok Sabha, UNHRC, SPECPOL and IP. A multicultural evening and exciting debates kept the delegates busy throughout the conference. The ‘Kamera Obscura’ competition was also a very enriching experience for the delegates. It fostered in them a deep appreciation for art and science through photography and film making.
The three days-long event was an enriching experience for the delegates that enabled them to debate on a national platform. Eddha Manhas of KCPS was awarded with ‘Verbal Mention’ in the UNW committee while all other delegates did exceptionally well with their enthusiastic participation in the Conference.
The students who attended the conference are Arushi Pandita, Mrinmay Mehta, Ryna Dogra, Vasudha Jain, Divyanshi Gupta, Eddha Manhas, Ankita Khajuria, Medhaj Pathania, Shashank Padha, Harshini Wanchoo and Shivam Amla. Aadhar Kapoor and Navdeep Mahajan also attended the event by taking part in its ‘Kamera Obscura’ competition. The delegates were escorted by Shobhna Sethi.
