POONCH, Aug 9: Organized by the District Administration Poonch in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Cricket Cup concluded at Sports Stadium, here today.
The Tournament titled Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was conducted over a period of a month, first at zonal level and then district level, and was closely contested between 11 zone teams of District Poonch. The final of the Tournament was played between Zone Kanuyian and Zone Mendhar.
The team of Zone Kanuyian put up a stellar performance to clinch the AKAM Cricket Cup. Batting first, Zone Mendhar scored 139 runs. Waseem and Sheraz scored 44 and 46 runs, respectively. Zone Kanuyian achieved the target in 14 overs.
Mehboob scored brilliant 67 runs in 35 balls and was declared as Man of the match. He was also crowned as the Man of the Series for his brilliant performance both with ball and bat.
Earlier, CMO Poonch Dr Anees Altaf Nabi interacted with finalist teams and wished them good wishes.
The Tournament was technically supervised by Pawan Kumar PEL and Perviaz Ahmed ReK. Vijay Kumar (PEM) conducted the closing ceremony.
The award winning teams and players were felicitated during an impressive presentation ceremony by DC Poonch Yasin Mohd Choudhary along with Mohd Qasim (DYSSO Poonch), Nirdosh Kumar (IC Manager Sports Stadium Poonch) and ZPEOs of various zones and prominent civil dignitaries in presence of a huge gathering of locals.
A cash prize of Rs 50,000 was awarded to winner team and Rs 25,000 to Runners Up team while other awards will be awarded on 15th August.
