KATHUA, Dec 25: BJP National Executive Member & J&K Chief Spokesperson Dr Jitendra Singh today said that his party is the only viable democratic option for self-respecting patriotic people, particularly in a State like Jammu & Kashmir, because here the other major national party, namely the Congress, has in its bid for power, yielded space to separatist-friendly regional parties.
Addressing a meeting of party workers here, he said this makes the responsibility of a BJP “Karyakarta” all the more crucial because the entire nation looks up to him for holding aloft the Tricolor of Indian sovereignty in the State.
Dr Jitendra Singh claimed, BJP is not controlled by any dynasty and it could choose a tea seller with a humble background as its Prime Ministerial candidate because, unlike several other parties, it is not a mother-son or father-son party. Modi has arrived as a lease of fresh air to liberate the masses suffering from suffocation of price rise, corruption and exploitation, he added.
In order to get the real benefit of the forthcoming Modi Government at the Center, Dr Jitendra Singh said, people in the State will have to ensure that they vote for BJP candidates in Parliament and State Assembly elections from Kathua and other constituencies so that they get adequate representation in the Center and at the same time also have their say in the formation of the Government in the State.
Referring to the border district of Kathua as a standing example of regional discrimination, Dr Jitendra Singh said, certain peculiar problems of the district including cross border terrorism, lack of infrastructural support for border area people, inadequate compensation to the farmers in lieu of the land acquired from them, poor irrigation schemes, etc have remained unaddressed even after 66 years of independence.
On the occasion, several local youth joined the BJP. They were welcomed into the party fold by Dr Jitendra Singh along with Kathua district vice president Prem Nath Dogra. Also present were district general secretary Gopal Gupta, district secretary Prof Shingari and BJYM office bearers Rajesh Mehta, Pankaj, Vikas Kath, Sweety Gupta, Ajeet Kundal, Angan Singh, Sonu Jamwal and several others.
Earlier, speaking at another function held at BJP office here to celebrate the birthday of Atal Behari Vajpayee, Dr Jitendra Singh recalled, Vajpayee had poetically predicted the resurgence of “lotus”, the party symbol of BJP, and said, “that moment of destiny has arrived”.
