JAMMU, Aug 27: Police in Bishnah area here today claimed to have arrested a cyber fraudster linked to a walnut trade scam.
The accused, Hitesh Nanak Ram from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was apprehended by a team of Bishnah Police Station led by SDPO RS Pura, Nikhil Gogna, assisted by SHO Bishnah, Inspector Vikram Sharma, under the overall supervision of SP Headquarters, Ramnish Gupta.
The case traces back to January 3, 2022, when one Raghav Narang from Bishnah District fell victim to a fraudulent scheme.
Narang had been dealing with Sarthi Traders in Nagpur but was tricked by someone pretending to be from New Sarthi Traders. This fake trader convinced Narang to order walnut kernels, resulting in goods worth Rs 20, 42, 494 being sent to the scammer.
On receiving a complaint from Narang, Bishnah Police Station registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC and accordingly identified the main culprit, Hitesh Nanak Ram from Nagpur, using modern investigation tools. He was later arrested from Pune, Maharashtra.
While police claimed to have recovered Rs 1.96 lakh from the accused, further investigation in the case is underway.
