J&K, Ladakh celebrate National Sports Day with great enthusiasm, fervour

JAMMU, Aug 29: Different Schools, Colleges, University Campuses and Sports bodies across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and fervour which is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Paying floral tributes to Indian Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council organised an impressive, colourful and well attended function to celebrate National Sports Day at KK Hakhu AstroTurf Hockey Stadium, here today.
Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director University of Jammu; Sunaina Mehta, Joint Director Tourism Jammu; Rahul Sahai, Pradeep Dutta and Shaheen Wahid, SP South Jammu were the guests of honour. Earlier, Ranjeet Kalra, Member of J&K Sports Council on behalf of Secretary Nuzhat Gul threw light on the achievements of J&K Sports Council.
The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu celebrated National Sports Day 2023 at the University Campus. Prof. Rajnikant, Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest whereas Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning, Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar University of Jammu, Prof.Neelu Rohmetra Director DD & OE and Prof. Prakash C. Anthal, Dean Student Welfare were the guests of honour on this occasion.
Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, DySP International Fencer, Abhishek Jain, Secretary J&K Kick Boxing Association, Shotu Lal Sharma Fencing Coach, Guljinder Singh Grappling Association, Gourav Arora Pencak-Silat Association and Pranav Bandral Director Pir Panjal Adventures were special invitees.
The University of Kashmir (KU) organized a series of activities to celebrate the National Sports Day today. Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), KU had made special arrangements in organizing the activities.
Registrar University of Kashmir, Dr Nisar Ahmed Mir underscored the need to sensitise the youth about health and wellbeing. “We need to sensitise our youth about the importance of the day and encourage them to take active part in co-curricular activities especially sports and fitness for their all-round development,” he said. He appreciated the efforts of the DPES for organizing the events in line with the ongoing celebrations of the National Sports Day.
Government Degree College, Khaltse, Leh commemorated the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and observed National Sports Day 2023 under the theme “Sports are an enabler to an inclusive and fit society”. Students of GDC, Khaltse participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The event was coordinated by Director of Physical Education, Sonam Chosphail, and Sports assisted by the sports committee. Principal GDC Khaltse, Stanzin Yangdol, appreciated the winners, participants, and the organising committee for conducting the event on National Sports Day.
Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu distributed trophies and medals among winning and runner up teams at the conclusion ceremony of National Sports Day at Khel Gaon Nagrota Jammu.
Earlier, a week long National Sports Day programme of games and sports organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports District Jammu from 23rd to 29th of August concluded here today at Khel Gaon Nagrota in which, teams of Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Football compete for their best performance.
The National Sports Day 2023 was observed throughout the two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan J&K and Ladakh. Various events and programs were organised to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand which is celebrated every year as National Sports Day. The theme for this year is “Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society”.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports Department in collaboration with NSS units of Government SPMR College of Commerce organized various Sports activities to celebrate National Sports Day here today. The programme was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bechan Lal, Cluster University of Jammu along with Dr. Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar, Dr. Naveen Anand, Dean Academic Affair, Dr. Ranvijay Singh, DSW, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dean Sciences, Principal Dr. Surinder Kumar and Staff members of the college.
University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus (JU) organised National Sports Day by showcasing an exhilarating display of athleticism and camaraderie. Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in her message expressed her happiness to see the enthusiasm and passion exhibited by students during the National Sports Day celebration.
Department of Physical Education and Sports in coordination with IQAC of Government Degree College Banihal under an ambit of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrated National Sports Day in the conference room of the College with a record note of maximum participation of students and faculty members.
Government Degree College, Marh under fit India campaign celebrated two day-long National Sports Day. The Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the NSS unit under the patronage of Principal Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, organized Intramural competitions in Chess, Badminton and Carrom.
The Physical Education and Sports Department Government Degree College Sunderbani has successfully concluded a dynamic weeklong celebration dedicated to the “Fit India Mission “which pays homage to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and an overall healthier lifestyle among students, faculty, and staff members.
Government Degree College, Khour celebrated National Sports Day here today. To commemorate the day, the Department of Sports and Physical Education organised an Intra-mural Volleyball competition in the college campus. The final match was played between teams of Semester 5th and Semester 3rd in this event student of semester 3rd outplayed semester 5th students with the score of 3-1.
Government Degree College, Bani celebrated National Sports Day. On this occasion a cross country race was organised in which 30 boys and 20 girls participated. In girl’s category 1st, 2nd and 3rd position was secured by Kiran Jyoti, Sonu Devi and Munisha Devi of semester 3rd respectively and consolation prize was secured by Kavita Sundram. In boy’s category 1st position was secured by Akshya Singh from 3rd semester, 2nd position was secured by Vinod Kumar from 5th semester, 3rd position secured by Rinku Singh from 3rd semester and 1st consolation prize was secured by Ganesh Dutt whereas 2nd consolation prize was secured by Muzffar.
Government Degree College Ramgarh organized a series of activities to commemorate National Sports Day. Two sports activities such as Carrom in an Indoor and Volleyball as outdoor game and two fun activities, Lemon Race and Langadi Game were held. These activities were organized by the Sports Committee of the College under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
Government Degree College, Ramnagar, Department of Physical Education and Sports organized an intramural competition in Table Tennis to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on the eve of National Sports Day.
The Department of Physical Education and the NSS Unit of Government Degree College Marheen, Hiranagar celebrated National Sports Day by organizing a series of sports activities from 23rd of August to 29 August. The programme was organized under the patronage of the Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta.
As a sequel to the Viksit Yuva Viksit Bharat and Fit India Movement launched by the Prime Minister under Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, a demonstration match on traditional martial Arts Gatka (M&W) was organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS) Government Degree College Kathua on the eve of National Sports Day.
Government Degree College, Mahanpur organized National sports day with great enthusiasm. The week-long sports events were organized under the guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College and coordinated by the Department of Sports, GDC Mahanpur under the supervision of Dr. Balbinder Singh (Physical Director).
Government Degree College for Women, Kathua organized two events such as Badminton Match and Tug of war to observe the joyous celebration of athleticism, teamwork and spirit of sportsmanship on the eve of The National Sports Day. The programme was organized by Physical Director, PTI Roshan Lal Sharma in collaboration with Dr. Arun Dev Singh NSS P.O. of the college under the patronage of college Principal, Dr. Savi Behl.
Department of Physical Education and Sports of Government Degree College, R. S. Pura celebrated National Sports Day, 2023, in which Intramural Chess and Carrom was organised under the patronage of worthy Principal, Prof. Rajni Bhagat and supervision of Kajal Premi, Physical Director (PTI). A Large number of students participated with zeal and enthusiasm in the competitions.
Post Graduate College Bhaderwah celebrated National Sports Day here today in which various activities were performed. The Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with NCC and NSS organized a Sports event in celebration of National Sports Day under the supervision of Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma. Prof. Naz Zargar, Assistant Professor English and Convener Sports Committee delivered an introductory speech about the National Sports Day.
A two day long Intra-College Knockout Chess and Badminton tournaments were held in Government Degree College, Udhampur on the eve of National Sports Day. The competition was conducted under the patronage of Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta. The events were coordinated by Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma in collaboration with NSS, NCC, NCORD and DSW of the College.
Vidyalankar Academy celebrated National Sports Day here today in collaboration with J&K Roller Skating Association. Chairman Vidyalankar Academy, Gourav Gumble appreciated all the players and their parents for participating in Hockey Federations Cup which was recently concluded in Jammu where more than 11 states participated enthusiastically.
In order to celebrate National Sports Day, a series of events were organised by Sports, NCC and NSS units of Government Degree College, Paloura. The National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29th August to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
Dr. Ashu Vashisht, Principal of the college emphasised the importance of sports in the overall development of the students and encouraged them to actively participate in such events regularly.
Government Higher Secondary School Chirala celebrated National Sports Day by organising Inter- School Sports Competition at Cluster level in which 129 students hailing from different schools of cluster Chiralla actively participated in the discipline of Cricket and Volleyball. Principal of the institution, Hem Raj Chalotra was chief guest. Prior to the inauguration of the match, a rich tribute was paid to Major Dhyan Chand the legend of Hockey by the Principal, Staff and students.
Government Higher Secondary School, Paloura, Jammu celebrated National Sports Day here today. Number of sports activities such as Tug of War, Sack race, lemon race were performed in the premises of the school.
Shri Sain Charitable Trust commemorated the National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and fervour here today. The Trikuta College of Physical Education was the host college, wherein the Chairperson, Suman Sharma was the chief guest whereas MD Ravish Sharma, CEOs Jasudha Sharma and Japna Sharma of Trikuta Group of Colleges, Principals of all Institutions of Trikuta Group of Colleges and many others were guests of honour.
