Tina becomes first Jammu woman to complete 72-Km Khardung La Marathon

JAMMU, Sept 9: A 39 year old Tina Sahi, daughter of Dr V.K. Sahi, a resident of Satwari, Jammu has made history by becoming the first woman from Jammu region to complete the gruelling Ultra Marathon in the world’s high-altitude terrain of Ladakh.
She termed the accomplishment as not only her personal victory but also an inspiration to aspiring athletes and women across the nation to pursue their dreams.
The Khardung La Ultra Marathon, known for its unforgiving terrain and challenging weather conditions, poses a formidable test of physical and mental strength. She covered 72 kilometres of marathon at an altitude of 17,618 feet above sea level with unwavering commitment, resilience, and an indomitable spirit.
Speaking to Excelsior, Tina said, “I am the first woman from Jammu region who completed the 72-Km Khardung La Marathon within an approximate 12 hours (Exact timing not known). I had also participated last year in a 42 kilometres Marathon, but this time I came up with much preparation and guidance from Ultra runners.”
Tina has long been passionate about pushing her limits and breaking stereotypes. She faced the region’s harsh climate and treacherous trails head-on, preparing both her body and mind for this extraordinary endeavour.
Tina stated that her accomplishment will inspire more women and young girls to pursue their dreams, embrace challenges, and shatter gender barriers in the world of athletics. She also expressed her gratitude to her family, friends and coaches for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She also acknowledged the Ladakh Ultra Marathon organizers and fellow participants for creating an environment that fosters sportsmanship and camaraderie.
