JAMMU, Sept 9: A joint protest of OBC Mahasabha, All India Backward Classes Federation and All J&K Welfare Forum was held today in front of the office of Chief Election Officer J&K at Nirvachan Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, Jammu.
The protest was organized to submit objections regarding J&K OBC/OSC Reservation in Urban Local Bodies and Panchyati Raj System as per Para Number 243D-6 and 243T-6 of Indian Constitution and as per Supreme Court Judgment dated 10-05-2022 on writ petition number 278 of 2022.
During the protest, Kasturi Lal Basotra (chairman, OBC Mahasabha) disclosed that provision of reservation for OBC in the Constitution has been made under Article 243 D-6 and 243T-6 and now while giving the Judgment on the writ petition number 278 of 2022, Supreme Court of India made it clear that this order and directions are not limited to the Madhya Pardesh State Election Commission/State of Madhya Pardesh and Maharashtra State Election Commission/State of Maharashtra in terms of similar order passed on 04-05-2022 but to all the states/Union Territories and the respective Election Commission to abide by the same.
Faquir Chand Satia (president, AIBCF and general secretary of All J&K Prajapati Sabha) said that the matter regarding the OBC reservation in Urban Local Bodies and in Panchyati Raj System has already been implemented in most of states of the country since long time but in J&K the OBCs having 32% population as per census-1931 are facing discrimination since independence of the country.
He said now despite the abrogation of Article 370 and J&K being a Union Territory, all Central laws are directly applicable to J&K but OBCs are still facing discrimination in J&K. Satia said J& OBC masses will hold protests and rallies at towns, tehsils and districts till their constitutional rights are not implemented in J&K.
Others spokes on the occasion were general sectary Shashi Verma, Bansi Lal Choudhary, Bansi Lal Gumbal, Ravi Kumar Dogra, Raj Kumar Chalotra, Balwant Katria, Kuldeep Chalotra, Kewal Fotra, Vikas Bhardwaj and Vijay Kumar Prajapati.
