SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Army today said that strong intelligence network and counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) helped them to foil infiltration attempts by militants into Kashmir and recovery of huge cache of arms.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kupwara based 28-Division of Army; Major General J S Sandhu told a press conference today that Army has a strong counter-infiltration grid along the LoC in place: “We have a strong counter infiltration grid in entire Kashmir. We have at various occasions foiled the terrorists’ attempts of infiltration bids into Kashmir.”
Gen Sandhu said that Army is alert on the borders and will foil any infiltration bid by militants into Kashmir. “We will continue to do so. I can assure you that Army will always remain vigilant on the borders for the country”, he added.
The GOC said that Army had received information from its intelligence agency that militants are planning infiltration and we laid ambushes in Macchil sector to foil any infiltration bid.
“We have very effective intelligence network in this area which is well coordinated with other agencies. And in the last few days, 4-5 days, we received information about likely infiltration attempts by terrorists in the area. The troops were alerted on Friday morning after some movement was observed near the LoC. The ambushes were placed and yesterday morning troops carried searches in the forward areas. The area is very difficult, mountainous, high altitude and presently covered with snow”, the GOC said.
General Sandhu said that the troops recovered weapons during searches near the LoC which were concealed in bags and were buried under snow. “The troops did an excellent job by pulling out weapons that were concealed in bags under rocks in snow. The weapons are in very good condition, well greased and oiled and ready to fire as such. They were wrapped in a foreign newspaper. 20 AK-47 Rifles and 20 Pistols with Chinese marking were recovered. They were well wrapped and pistols were wrapped in a plastic sheet.”
The Army officer commended the role of the Commanding Officer of the unit and jawans for doing excellent job of recovery of huge cache of arms. “It is the soldiers right in the front and their Commanding Officer, it is their capability and valour that we achieved this success, credit goes to them”, he added.
