JAMMU, Sept 15: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) serves as a vital link between the Government, journalists, and the public.
This is how Ghulam Abbas, the Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Communication in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, highlighted the role of PIB while delivering a lecture on the Board’s history and functions during an orientation program at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
Abbas emphasized that PIB regularly disseminates press releases in various vernacular languages, ensuring that Government initiatives reach a wide audience.
He said PIB also fosters the exchange of ideas and knowledge between different states and organizes workshops aimed at grassroots journalists.
Shaminder Kumar, Former Station Director of All India Radio (AIR), praised the discipline of AIR and urged journalism students to value their time.
Ayushi Puri, Deputy Director at the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), discussed the comprehensive communication approach adopted by CBC, involving interactions with public sector units, Government officials, and social media.
She highlighted CBC’s involvement in audio-visual campaigns, small video graphics, exhibitions, outdoor and social media campaigns, as well as advertising rates for newspapers and magazines.
Davyavasu Sharma, a digital entrepreneur, spoke about the evolving landscape of digital journalism and the impact of sentiment analysis on information markets.
Sanjeet Khajuria, Former Deputy Director of Doordarshan (DD), shared his experiences from his DD News reporting days.
Prof Anil Saumitra, Regional Director of IIMC, Jammu, chaired the orientation program, which was moderated by Dr Dilip Kumar, Associate Professor at IIMC.
Students from various courses had the opportunity to ask questions about government communication agencies.
In the second session of the orientation program, newly appointed officers and faculty members at IIMC welcomed the new batch of students pursuing English Journalism, Hindi Journalism, and Digital Media courses.
