JAMMU, Jan 1: Skipper Parvez Rasool scored power-packed 83 runs, while opener Adil Reshi and middle-order batsman Hardeep Singh hit half-centuries as Jammu and Kashmir moved a step closer towards qualifying  for the quarter-final berth in the Ranji Trophy having ensured 45-run first innings lead over Tripura.
In reply to Tripura’s first innings score of 280, Jammu and Kashmir scored 325 with Rasool (83), Adil Reshi (78) and Hardeep Singh (52) being the chief contributors.
In the second innings, Tripura were 103 for 2 with a lead of 58 runs at stumps on day-3. For J&K, Parvez Rasool and Bandeep Singh shared one wicket each.
If the match ends in a draw, Jammu and Kashmir will get to 28 points. At this point of time, Jammu and Kashmir’s run quotient of +0.977 is slightly less than Goa who are +1.005 having completed their league engagements.
Now, with a day’s play left in the match, Jammu and Kashmir have to bowl-out Tripura within 240-run mark to enhance their run quotient and claim number two slot in Group-C points table and seal berth in the quarterfinals.
Jammu and Kashmir today ensured the lead mainly because Rasool-Reshi pair added 113 runs for the fourth wicket. Rasool was the attacking of the two, striking 11 boundaries in his 92-ball knock. Reshi played 132 balls hitting 9 fours for his patient 78.
It was Hardeep Singh (52) alongwith Samiuallah Beigh (19), who as usual played sensibly and added 44 runs for the seventh wicket to get the much needed lead for Jammu and Kashmir.
Brief Scores: Tripura 280 & 103/2; Jammu and Kashmir 325 (Parvez Rasool 83, Asil Rishi 78, Hardeep Singh 52).
