Chib urges Govt to raise sports infrastructure across J&K

3rd District Silambam C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Sept 23: Hari Singh Chib, President District Congress Committee, Jammu Rural urged Jammu and Kashmir Government to take adequate measures in raising sports infrastructure across Union Territory.
The Senior Congress leader was speaking after felicitating the winners of two days 3rd District Silambam Championship, in Mini Sub Junior, Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Categories which concluded here today. The championship was organised by Silambam Association of Jammu which is affiliated to the All India Silambam Federation. More than 300 student’s from different schools participated.
Somnath Sharma was the guest of honour of the closing ceremony, Birinder Singh, President of Silambam Association of J&K, Kaka Ram General Secretary of SAJK, Jai Gupta, Ankush Sharma, Nehal Laletra, Tashvi Hans, Naresh Kumar, Naman Thakur, Rajneesh Gupta, Pooja, Laxmi and Rashmi Gupta were the officials of the tournament.
The winner’s trophy was bagged by S.D. Memorial School while Ist Runner Up was secured by BHMP School, and 3rd Runner Up trophy by Shangrilla Public School and the Discipline Trophy was bagged by Trikula Public School.
Hari Singh Chib said that a lot of enthusiasm was witnessed among the children belonging to different schools who have come to participate in the two-day championship. He said that there is dire need to promote sports activities not only for a healthy citizenry but more than that to divert the youth from the path of indulging in drug related activities. He said that today youth excelling in the field of sports can also adopt Silambam as a lucrative career. He said that there is a dire need to divert the attention of youth towards sports.
