JAMMU, Jan 6: Young Star, Young Rovers and Jammu Sports registered convincing victories over their rivals to advance in the ongoing 8th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College Football ground, here today.
Earlier, in the first match played today, Young Star got better of Vijay Club by two goals to one (2-1) in a close contest. Tanvir Singh and Ranvijay Singh were the goal scorers for Young Star in 3rd and 44th minutes of the match, while Manmohan Singh scored the goal for Vijay Club in 46th minute. Dhananjay and Suraj Kumar of Vijay Club were shown yellow cards for foul play.
In another match, Young Rovers blanked Mussa Club by three goals to nil (3-0). The players of Young Rovers dominated the game from the word go and scored all three goals in the first half, while Mussa Club players had no answer to ploy and tactics applied by the winners. Rahul, Vishal and Naresh Kumar succeeded in scoring goals for Young Rovers in 1st, 9th and 11th minutes respectively.
Meanwhile, Jammu Sports defeated District Football Association (DFA), Udhampur by four goals to one (4-1) in an easy contest. Sushil Michael scored 2 goals for Jammu Sports in 1st and 33rd minutes respectively, while Sahil succeeded in netting a goal via penalty kick in 27th minute of the match and the 4th goal was pelted by Bunty in 38th minute. For DFA Udhampur, Harnam Singh scored the goal in 52nd minute of the match.
The matches were officiated by a penal of experts including Hilal Ahmed, Moon Stephen, Harminder Singh, Rinku Gill, Elijah Sotra, Koushal Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, while the Tournament is being organized by All J&K Christian Welfare Association, under the overall supervision of Ex-MLC, SM Gill, David Masih, Feastus Sotra and Yousaf Don.
Jammu Sports will take on Akhnoor Football Club in the first match at 12 noon tomorrow, while J&K Bank Academy will lock horns with Jammu United in the second match at 2 pm.
