JAMMU, Oct 9: Inter-Collegiate Chess (M&W) Championship 2023-24 organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu commenced at University Gymnasium Hall, here today.
In the first match of the men’s section, the Government Degree College, Nowshera team beat Government Degree College, Akhnoor by 3-1 points. In second match, Government Degree College, Bishnah beat Government Degree College Marheen by 3-1 points. In the women’s section, Government Degree College Kathua beat GCW Parade by 3-2 points. The match was decided through best versus best, as it remained a 2-2 draw in the main game.
In the second match of the women’s section, Government Degree College, Bhagwati Nagar beat Government Degree College, Bishnah by 3-1. In the third match, GCW Kathua beat Government Degree College Purmandal by 4-0. In the fourth match, GCW Udhampur beat Government Degree College Billawar by 3-2 points through best-versus-best, as the match remained a 2-2 draw in the main game.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, declared the tournament open by making the first move in the presence of the teacher incharge of physical education of the participating team. The matches were officiated by SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney, Inderjeet Singh and Padam Dev Singh.
