JAMMU, Oct 15: 34th North Zone Junior Athletics Championship commenced here today at synthetics athletics track at Jammu University after a lapse of almost 32 years.
About 1000 athletes and officials from nine States and Union Territories are taking part in the Championship which was inaugurated by Kavinder Gupta, Former Deputy Chief Minister J&K as chief guest while B.S Baloria, Deputy Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation was guest of honour.
Number of Sports luminaries from J&K UT including Prof. (Dr) Ashutosh Sharma, former President J&K Athletics Association and presently President J&K Olympic Association, Dushyant Sharma, Former President Wrestling Federation of India among many other dignitaries were present.
Kavinder Gupta and B.S Baloria spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of J&K Athletics Association. Prof. (Dr) Ashutosh Sharma former President J&K Athletics Association gave a brief account of formation of J&K Athletics Association and performance shown by J&K UT Athletes in the National and International event. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and J&K Sports Council for laying out synthetic Track at Jammu University Ground.
All the arrangements were made for by J&K Amateur Athletics Association including boarding and lodging. The championship is being conducted under the overall supervision of Sharat Chander Singh, Organizing Secretary of the Championship.
