SRINAGAR, Nov 4: The “50th Yonex – Sunrise J&K UT Badminton Championship, organized by the Badminton Association of J&K in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, commenced at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, here today.
Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS), was the chief guest. He inaugurated the Championship and Nuzhat Gul (Secretary, J&K Council) presided over the function. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Dr OD Sharma (vice president, Badminton Association of India), Muzaffar Wani (Divisional Sports Officer, Kashmir) as well as Hilal Ahmad and lqbal Ahmad (Managers).
Others present were Balbir Jamwal (general secretary, Badminton Association J&K), Fayaz Ahmad (joint secretary, Badminton Association J&K) and lrfanullah Shah (vice chairman, Badminton Association J&K). A large number of players, officials and distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.
More than 200 players from different districts of J&K are participating in the Tournament. The matches are being played under the supervision of Rahul Sharma (Chief Referee), assisted by Wasim Rather and Pawanjit Singh, and other members of technical team. Today on the first day of the Tournament, 21 matches were played.
