NEW DELHI, Jan 19: The Delhi police have imposed section 144 of the CrPC in and around New Delhi district ahead of the dharna planned by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal outside the residence of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to demand suspension of four police officers for inaction.
Though police said restrictions were being imposed in the district due to the Republic day, the action of the police comes in the wake of the threat by Mr Kejriwal to protest outside Mr Shinde’s residence from tomorrow if their demand for suspension of the policemen was not met.
“Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in New Delhi district from tomorrow in view of the Republic Day,” police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.
Mr Kejriwal has demanded immediate suspension of the police officers for not taking action on complaints by its ministers Somnath Bharti and Rakhi Birla in two cases relating to alleged burning of a woman and a suspected drug/sex racket, and over the alleged rape of a Danish woman.
Meanwhile, AAP leaders today reiterated that the protest outside the Home Minister’s residence will be held under the leadership of Mr Kejriwal if action is not taken against the police officials.
