JAMMU, Nov 29: Keeping in view the democratic aspirations of the students, the administration of Government Degree College Samba arranged the smooth conduct of elections.
The election commenced with the nomination of candidates from each class, section who were then elected by their compatriots through the method of a secret ballot. In total 20
class representatives were elected from semester I and Semester 3 each. It is pertinent to mention here that elections on campus are organised annually as Govt. Degree College, Samba is committed to the democratic ethos enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Apart from focussing on academics the students should also strive for excellence in diverse fields which facilitate the overall growth and demeanour of a person. Democracy is one such value which creates a responsible and informed citizenry, essential for the growth of a nation.
The atmosphere in the college was charged with enthusiasm and youthful fervour as many students also happened to be the first time voters. Principal of the College Dr. Twinkle Suri felicitated each class representative with a Sash and a Badge which will impart a distinct identity to the student representatives. She impressed upon the representatives to maintain a vibrant culture and to have a sense of ownership for the college so that the latter could excel in all the fields. The entire process was organised under the supervision of a student welfare committee headed by Prof. Shoba Gupta.
