SRINAGAR, Dec 10: Police today busted an unregistered news portal allegedly circulating fake news and arrested two persons involved in managing the site.
An official said that Police’s CIK wing busted the unregistered news portal by the name “Daily News & Analysis,” with a Pakistan flag logo, circulating fake news.
“The two site admins/ managers Zahoor Ahmad Khan and Abdul Rouf Peer, from Kupwara, were arrested for spreading rumours to disturb peace and tranquillity”, the official said.
“Several digital devices were seized from the duo, which are under investigation”, he added.
Police in Kashmir has launched a major crackdown against people who are circulating inflammatory content on social media.
Police in Awantipora initiated legal action against Sheeraz Ahmed Beigh son of Abdul Majeed Beigh of Beighpora for uploading inflammatory and instigating content on social media.
Earlier yesterday, police booked at least six persons under the same offence in several districts of Kashmir.
