JAMMU, Dec 20: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jayesh Gupta today expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of regional cinema as well as local artists and urged upon the LG administration to ponder on it and amend its film policy accordingly.
Addressing a press conference here, Jayesh Gupta said there are many talented actors, producers, directors and technicians in Jammu and Kashmir but they have become jobless in last 10 years as regional feature films which are liked by one and all, often do not get support of Government, distributors and theatre owners. These talented artists are now forced to odd jobs to earn their livelihood, he added.
“In past few years, we saw some very good regional films and these films got huge appreciation from general public and won accolades at several International film festivals but the producers and directors of these films have to go through losses which discouraged them to make another regional film, he alleged and added that when a producer or director loose money, then actors, cast and crew, technician etc has to suffer as well.
The AAP leader said need of the hour is that J&K Government should bring all the stake holders at one table and amend the existing film policy of the UT in such a way that local actors, producers, directors and technicians may get relief. Regarding the subsidy part which is given to the producers, he said Government should bring transparency aware the local film makers so that they may also avail the subsidy in a proper way.
“Government should bring such a film policy where local films should get a fixed or reserves slots in the theatre so that producer may earn the revenue,” Jayesh said. He also strongly demanded the Government to give Duggar satellite channel to the people of the Jammu division which will create employment for local artists and help promote the Dogri culture which is fading away slowly and steadily.
