RAJOURI, Jan 30: Maintaining that rail link for Rajouri and Poonch is necessary for improvement of quality of life of the people of twin hilly and border districts, former Chief Whip, State Congress Legislative Party, Ashok Sharma, urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to review the decision to stall the rail project for these backward areas.
Chairing a public meeting here at Village Mathani, Sharma also pleaded for creation of a new district out of Rajouri and Poonch districts, Sub-Division at Kalakote, tehsils at Taryth, Khawas and Chingus, Niabats at Panjah, Tatapani, Mathani, Dangri, Badal, Dhalari, Kalalkass, Narian and Metka besides blocks at Baljarallan, Moghla and Dharmsal.
The meeting resolved and urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to divert the funds amounting to Rs 1.12 crore kept for model village Mathani for raising hospital and school buildings with adequate infrastructure as per local needs.
The resolution also expressed resentment for non-availability of doctor and para-medical staff in local hospital and teachers in High schools, besides non-supply of electricity and drinking water.
