AKHNOOR, Jan 31: Government Higher Secondary School, Nardi-Bala and Government High School, Sunail in Akhnoor zone today celebrated their annual day functions with lot of enthusiasm and fanfare.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest and Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board, Kuldeep Raj Verma was guest of honour on both the occasions.
The students of both the schools presented colourful cultural programmes, highlighting the composite culture of India, national integration, communal harmony and social evils, which enthralled the jam packed gathering.
Addressing the gathering on both the occasions, the Minister said that extra-curricular activities are as essential as academic for the overall development of the students and teachers must focus on both these to produce the best products. He lauded the efforts of Government schools to expand their activities to promote competitive spirit among the students. He said these activities provide opportunities to the students to display their skills in different fields which help in promoting culture, patriotism and rich heritage of the country, said the Minister.
Mr Sham said that massive development has taken place in the education sector during the past one decade as education remained focus area for the successive Governments. He said the flagship programmes of Central Government namely, SSA and RMSA opened new chapter of expansion and State Government implemented these programmes in letter and spirit with an objective to provide the educational facilities to the students at their doorsteps.
Responding to the demands of Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Nardi-Bala, the Minister announced construction of an examination hall for the school. He directed the concerned to formulate a proposal and start the work immediately.
Earlier, the Minister and Vice Chairman also inaugurated the additional accommodation in the Government High School, Sunail. The additional accommodation has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.45 lakh under SSA programme.
Mr Sham and Mr Verma also distributed prizes and mementoes among the students who performed well in different activities.
