JAMMU, Feb 1: The Students Association of Ladakh, Jammu, (SAOLJ) organised its annual day function at Police Auditorium, here today.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon was the chief guest while Minister of State for Information Technology and Science Technology, Feroz Ahmad Khan was the guest of honour.
Terming knowledge as great power to excel in every field of life, the Advisor said that achieving education should not be confined to academic excellence only rather it should be gained as real knowledge in view of today’s era of knowledge explosion.
Akhoon said that our region is known for brotherhood and communal harmony throughout the world since time immemorial, adding that such events would further strengthen the bonds of amity. He said that it is a matter of great pleasure that despite ever increasing western influences on our lives these students still have great respect for their culture and traditions.
On the occasion, Feroz Ahmad Khan complimented the students of Ladakh and Kargil for excelling in every field of competition in spite of all topographical and related hurdles. He said that politics should not come in the way of development as in a democratic system political scenario is a vital component in progress and prosperity of a nation.
In response to the demands projected by the President SAOLJ Mohammad Ibrahim, the Advisor and the Minister assured them that these would be taken up at the appropriate forum.
The demands projected by SAOLJ include construction of residential Sarai, Boys Hostel, regulation of air fare, and enhancement of scholarships, opening of DDE of Jammu University and Nodal Cells of UPSC and JKPSC in Ladakh.
On the occasion, the students presented colourful cultural programmes depicting the high ethos of tradition, brotherhood and communal harmony in the region which mesmerized the audience.
Later, the dignitaries distributed prizes among meritorious students who cracked different competitive examinations.
Former Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil, Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan and a large number of students and their parents were present on the occasion.
