KATHUA, Jan 16: Verma Sports Club Sahnewal clinched 12th Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone T-20 Cricket Championship by defeating Vicky Akash 11 Pathankot team by eight wickets, here today.
R R Swain, Director General of Police (DGP), J&K was the chief guest for the final match who was accompanied by Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu Zone, as well as other senior police officials including DIG JSK Range Shakti Kumar Pathak, Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rakesh Minhas, as well as large gathering witnessed the final match. The DGP complimented the Kathua Police, Shaheed Welfare Committee and Sponsors for their support in organising this mega event.
The chief guest alongwith other police officers & dignitaries also paid floral tribute to the brave martyrs and personally interacted with the martyr’s families and distributed gifts among them. Later, he distributed trophies, medals and prizes among the winner and runner-up teams and management committee members.
Earlier, Vicky Akash 11 Pathankot team while batting first scored 162 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets in which Digvijay scored 67 runs in 38 balls with five boundaries alongwith five sixes and Shubham scored 23 runs in 24 balls with two boundaries and gave a toughest total of 162 runs to opposition team.
Verma Sports Club Sahnewal team easily chased down the target in 19 overs for the loss of two wickets and won this final match by eight wickets. Dhruv was declared as “Man of the Match” who scored 96 runs off 60 balls with 13 boundaries alongwith two sixes. He was awarded with cash prize of Rs 25,000 alongwith trophy.
Ankit Narwal (SPJ Gurgaon) was declared as player of the tournament and was awarded Maruti Car Alto 800. Harsh (Vicky Akash 11 Pathankot) was declared the Best Bowler who took 15 wickets and remained the most economical bowler and Navneet Singh (Vicky 11 Pathankot team) was declared the Best Batsman who scored 276 runs in the tournament, both were awarded “Motor Bikes” for their splendid performances. The winning team was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 3.50 lakh whereas Runner up team was given cash prize of Rs 2.50 lakh alongwith medals which were distributed among winner and runner up team players.
