NEW DELHI, Feb 5:In order to check arbitrary suspensions of bureaucrats, the Centre has asked all state Governments to ensure that the rules in this regard are followed in letter and spirit.
An advisory was issued on January 21 to Chief Secretaries of all state Governments to ensure that provisions relating to suspensions laid down under the rules are scrupulously followed in their letter and spirit, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy today told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said representations have been received from various associations of All India Services (AIS) officers–IAS, IPS and IFoS– raising the issue of unjustified suspensions by state Governments.
The issue of arbitrary suspension was raised with the Centre by civil services officers’ associations and others in the wake of recent controversy involving Durga Sakthi Nagpal.
Nagpal, a 2010 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, was suspended ostensibly for ordering demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque without following the due process in neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar area.
However, it was alleged that the 28-year-old officer was suspended for taking strict action against sand mining mafia active in the area. Nagpal was later reinstated. (PTI)
