JAMMU, Feb 5: Expressing their anguish and demanding Sub-Divisional (SD) status, the residents of Jandrah and adjoining villages today observed complete shutdown with all Government institutions including Government Degree College and Government Higher Secondary School remaining closed for the second consecutive day.
The protesting people from Jandrah, Dhan, Korga, Bhatyari, Kanyala, Nagola and several other Panchayats led by Raghuvir Singh, Sarpanch, Panchayat Halqa Nagola blocked Kishenpur-Domail road link for about six hours for second consecutive day and raised slogans against the coalition Government.
The protestors alleged that the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) has ignored their areas while recommending new administrative new units.
“We will not allow any Government institutions to function till the Government redresses our demand for granting Sub-Divisional status to Jandrah. The ruling political class has cheated us and we will not allow any political party to hold their functions in our areas till they support our cause. We have been subjected to great discrimination by the Government as it has not conceded our long pending demand for Tehsil status to Jandrah”, the protestors said.
Government should give Sub-Divisional status to Jandrah so as to deliver justice to a large population, they added.
Meanwhile, Ajit Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu visited the site and tried to pacify the agitators, but he had to face the wrath of the protestors.
The gathering was addressed by Parkash Singh, Sarpanch Kathar Panchayat, former Sarpanch, Kishori Lal, Omkar Singh, Ranjit Singh, Dharuv Singh, Haji Bashir, Saleem Mohammad, Karam Din, Lajja Ram and Beli Ram.
