JAMMU, Feb 5: National Knowledge Network (NKN) PoP of NIC was inaugurated here in the office complex of Divisional Commissioner by Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor today.
Dr Shaiesh Nayak, Secretary Ministry of Earth Science, Dr Arun Kumar, Financial Commissioner (Revenue), Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Bipul Pathak, Commissioner Secretary (IT), RS Mani, senior Technical Director, NIC, New Delhi, Dr Rafiq Pampori, Principal GMC, Srinagar, Dr Dev Anand Padha, Central University of Jammu, Dr Naveen Gondi from SMVDU, Katra, Farooq Wani from SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar and the staff of NIC were also present.
The NKN is a state-of-art multi-gigabit pan-India network for providing a unified high speed network backbone for all knowledge related institutions in the country. The purpose of such knowledge goes to the core of the country’s quest for building institutions with requisite research facilities and creating a pool of highly trained professionals.
Around 1170 institutes of higher education, research institutes have been connected till now. All the Universities, Medical, Colleges, Government Engineering Colleges have been connected via NKN in J&K.
The dignitaries also had a video conferencing session to gain knowledge of this network with various NKN PoPs Hyderabad, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bhopal, New Delhi and Kolkatta.
Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Abhay Kumar, SIO, NIC, J&K, whereas in the end, the vote of thanks was proposed by Jit Raj, Technical Director, NIC, J&K.
