GMC Jammu concludes 2-day State conference ‘NAMSCON’

JAMMU, Jan 20: The 2-day State conference with navigate CME and workshop on scientific paper writing in Medical Journal concluded today at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
The Conference titled ‘NAMSCON” was inaugurated on Friday by Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his inaugural address, Dr Syed Rasheed said that there is dire need to reform the medical curriculum and the students, both undergraduates and post graduates, should focus more on skill learning and should change the format of their studies which primarily is being governed by gadgets and artificial intelligence. He said that the teaching should be focused more in their training curriculum.
Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO AIIMS Jammu was the guest of honour while Dr M Ashraf Ganie (Sub Dean Research SKIMS Srinagar) and convener of National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS) J&K and Ladakh chapter, also graced the occasion.
Senior faculty members from GMC Jammu, GMC Ludhiana, ASCOMS Jammu, PGIMER Chandigarh and AIIMS Vijaypur including Dr Sandeep Koushal (Dean Academics, GMC Ludhiana), Dr RP Kudyar (former Director Principal, ASCOMS Jammu) and Dr Dinesh Kumar (Dean Academics, AIIMS Vijaypur), were the prominent guest speakers.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta (Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu and organizing chairman of J&K Ladakh NAMSCON) said that many innovative steps has been taken for uplifting the GMC Jammu like establishment of State Cancer Institute, Bone & Joint Hospital. He presented the mortality data and said this will help to prepare the health strategies.
More than 85 speakers from various specialties delivered guest lectures in the conference, which was attended by more than 600 delegates (offline and online) within the UT of J&K and Ladakh and across the country. More than 150 original research papers were deliberated in the conference.
