NEW DELHI, June 25 :
A Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered by the Army to look into the death of a Special Forces officer after he was seriously injured in an accidental firing incident in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir.
A CoI has been ordered to look into the reasons behind the accidental firing incident in the firing range in Kupwara in which Major Surendra Badsara of the 4 Para (SF) was seriously injured and later succumbed to injuries, sources told reporters.
After the injury received in the firing range due to “accidental discharge” of bullets from his own weapon, Badsara, a gallantry medal awardee, was admitted in the Research and Referral Hospital here and breathed his last on June 20, they said.
The CoI will find out as to how and why the incident happened and also suggest measures to ensure that it did not recur, they said.
The officer, a native of Rajasthan, was cremated in his home district of Sikar on Saturday.
Sources ruled out the possibility of any foul play in the incident.
Badsara’s battalion 4 Para (SF) is deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for carrying out counter insurgency operations there and had taken part in several successful missions. (PTI)
