Jammu, Feb 9: Jubilations were witnessed at PCC head quarters here over the decision of the State Govt to implement 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India in the State Panchayati Raj Act.
A large number of senior leaders including Ministers and legislators, and young workers assembled at the party office here today to celebrate the occasion amidst raising of slogans, beating of drums and distribution of sweets, to mark the historical achievement of the Congress party for strengthening the basic democratic institutions in the State, which fulfilled the dream of late Rajiv Gandhi.
Addressing the function senior functionaries of the party and Ministers described it a victory of democracy and the Congress party which had launched a struggle for empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State. The party welcomed and thanked the coalition Govt. for its decision and congratulated the Sarpanchs and Panchs in the State. The party expressed gratitude to the Congress High Command especially Rahul Gandhi who stood behind the PCC led by Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz for implementation of the provisions of 73rd Amendment in the State. The party also commended the role played by the entire rank and file of the party under the leadership of Prof. Soz for taking the movement to the logical conclusion in the Coordination Committee as well as in the State Cabinet.
Prominent among those who spoke included Th Hari Singh, S Gurmukh Singh, Sheikh Ghulam Haider, Ghulam Nabi Monga-MLC (Vice Presidents), MP Madan Lal Sharma, Ministers Ghulam Ahmed Mir & Vikar Rasool, general secretaries Ravinder Sharma-MLC, Vinod Sharma, Hans Raj Bhagat, Mehraj-ud-din Zargar, PYC President Shah Nawaj Choudhary, S.R. Sudhir, Manmohan Singh, Darshan Raina, Krishan Lal Gupta, Prakash Sharma Ex-MLA, Shiv Dev Singh Ex-MLA, Inayat Ullah Rathar, Shameema Sopori, Rashid Choudhary, Shameea Raina, Vikram Malhotra and Narinder Sharma.
The activists of Pradesh Youth Congress took out a victory rally and lauded AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi for taking tough stand in favour of 73rd Amendment.
The rally was led by Shahnawaz Choudhary president PYC, Pranav Shagotra, vice president, Manjeet Singh, gen secy, Abid Kashmiri, Rashid Ch, Ranveer Manhas, Nazeer Mir and Satish Sharma.
