Amendment in Panchayati Act will empower grass root governance: Aijaz

DHARMARI (GOOL), Feb 9: Terming the amendment in Panchayati Raj Act by the State Cabinet as a landmark decision, Minister of State for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Aijaz Ahmad Khan hoped that the move would further strengthen and consolidate grass root governance in the State.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting here today, the Minister said with the adoption of 73rd Amendment, the service delivery by Panchayats would get a further boost.
He said introduction of Panchayati Raj System in the State is the biggest achievement of the present Government. He said elections were held peacefully, powers of 14 line departments were transferred to Panchayats and now with the adoption of 73rd Amendment, the Panchayati Raj System in the State has been empowered to play a pivotal role.
Mr. Aijaz said the present Government has been conscious of the aspirations and problems of the people and is taking adequate steps to address them. He said the road connectivity in the State has been revolutionized and in sectors like Health, Education, Social Welfare, Rural Development the State has seen a massive growth.
He asked people to remain vigilant against the nefarious designs of vested elements who are hell bent to derail the developmental process in the State.
