UDHAMPUR, Feb 11: When the authorities concerned are keeping no stone unturned to motivate the youth to adopt sports culture and maintain distance from addiction of intoxicants, the sports stadium in Udhampur town awaits developments for the last many years.
Expressing resentment locals of the area informed that the playground at the stadium is not proper while pavillion has remained semi-constructed as the work for that was left mid-way by the contractor some two years back.
Saksham Seth, a local claimed that J&K Sports Council selectively gives priority to the cities of Jammu and Srinagar and towns like Udhampur face discrimination.
“We took the issue many times to the senior bureaucrats but so far no fruitful results have emerged,” a local leader from Udhampur who is also DPAP State secretary, Priti Khajuria informed.
She further said that crores of rupees have been spent over the pavilion at the stadium which is still semi-constructed and heaps of soil thrown in the stadium has added to the miseries of sports persons of the town.
DPAP Udhampur District president, Ashwani Khajuria has said that by neglecting the stadium, the authorities are playing with the future of local sportspersons.
“I also raised this issue in the programme ‘My Town My Pride’ and at other platforms but no action has been taken in this regard so far,” he maintained.
Similar concern was expressed by Arun Sharma, Akash Sandhu, Muzamil and others who have also staged a protest demonstration in this regard.
