Awareness lecture on Organ Donation held

JAMMU, Feb 13: Red Ribbon Club, Government Degree College Marh organized a one-day awareness lecture on Organ Donation in collaboration with the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation, Jammu & Kashmir under the guidance of the Principal of the college Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Koul.
Principal emphasized that the need for organ donors has increased significantly over the years. He said that voluntary organ donation is the only way to meet the huge demand for organs. The resource person of the awareness program was Ansu Sharma (IEC, SOTTO), who gave a PPT presentation about the functions of SOTTO in J&K and different types of organ donation and donors like liver, cornea, Kidney, deceased/dead donors. She also focused on Brain Stem Death (BSD) wherein vital organs are taken only after the person is declared Brain Stem dead. She added that people die due to the non-availability of organs for transplant so it is very important to donate organs. The pledge ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ was also taken by the students and faculty.
