Protest by border farmers at Ramgarh

SAMBA, Feb 15: Farmers of border villages Barota Camp, Pakhari, Kamore, Keso, Nanga etc in border belt of Ramgarh area of Samba district today protested against Revenue Department at tehsil office Ramgarh. The irate farmers were protesting against loss to their paddy crops due to the heavy floods during the Monsoon season of last year in which their crops as well as the pump sets and properties related the agriculture suffered a huge damage due to heavy rains. The protestors said after the tour of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah the farmers were awaiting for the compensation.
They said the Revenue Department fixed their compensation only Rs. 300 per kanal which is not sufficient for the farmers because they have spent about Rs. 2000 on the cultivation of per kanal of land and the compensation given by Government is in no way proper to compensate the losses. The protest was led by Sarpanch Halqua Panchayat Lagwal Prem Paul Choudhary. They were raising slogans against the Revenue Department and demanding that the Government should sanction Rs 4000 to Rs 5000 compensation per kanal of land. They also demanded free ration w.e.f. Monsoon season, and remittance of electricity charges etc.
After the protest they submit the memorandum to Naib Tehsildar Ramgarh to forward it to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
