State Assembly adjourned over sanctioning of 4 medical colleges by Centre

JAMMU : The State Assembly was today adjourned for around 20 minutes following uproar created by the members of the House alleging discrimination over sanctioning of medical colleges by the Centre in four districts of the State.
Demanding sanction of medical colleges in other districts, MLA Poonch Aijaz Jan, MLA Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA Kupwara Abdul Haq Khan and MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar shouted slogans alleging that the Union Health Ministry has ignored their areas while sanctioning the health institutions.
The legislators amid ruckus staged protest in the well of the House. However, despite Speaker Mubarak Gul’s assurance that the message will be conveyed to the Union Health Ministry for consideration, the members kept protesting and disrupted the House proceedings.
While the House proceedings remained disrupted, the Speaker adjourned the House.
As soon as the House resumed, the members raised the issue in one voice following which Minister for Law Mir Saifullah asked the protesting members to bring a resolution on the issue tomorrow and it will be forwarded to the Centre.
The members later suspended their protest.
Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad yesterday sanctioned permission for construction of four medical colleges in Kathua, Doda, Anantnag and Baramullah districts of the State. (AGENCIES)
