REASI, Feb 25: Two publications on commercial floriculture and women empowerment through Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) were released by the dignitaries during the National Review Workshop of ARYA Project, which was held recently at Bodhgaya, Bihar.
The workshop was attended by Senior Scientists and Heads of different Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) from distinguished agricultural universities of India. Dr Udham Singh Gautam, Deputy Director General (DDG), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi was the chief guest. He reviewed the overall functioning of ARYA project and encouraged scientists for their efforts on empowering the rural youths through this project.
Sr Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, of SKUAST- J), Dr Banarsi Lal presented the Annual Progress Reports (2022 & 2023) and Action Plan (2024-25) of KVK, Reasi for the Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture (ARYA) project. He elaborated the activities of ARYA project run by KVK Reasi for the welfare of the rural youths of the distt.
He also highlighted the successful cases of KVK especially on organic farming, floriculture, value addition in fruits and vegetables, backyard poultry farming and commercial floriculture. He emphasized on the impact assessment of agricultural extension activities by the KVK and said that cluster based approach adopted by KVK Reasi is having direct impact on the adjoining villages for the adoption of new agricultural technologies.
