Kashmir wetlands declared off-limits

Srinagar, Mar 1: The Department of Wildlife Protection today declared wetlands in Kashmir out of bounds for the general masses during the migratory season.
In a public notice issued, the Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division, Kashmir, stated that protected areas and adjoining areas under the Wetlands Division jurisdiction, including Hokersar WLR, Hygam WLR, Shallabugh WLR, Mirgund WLR, Chattlum WLR, Fashkoori WLR, Manibugh WLR, and Kranchoo WLR, “are declared Out Of Bounds for the general masses without valid permission in view of the migratory season.”
The notice reiterated that the Division has repeatedly prohibited entry into the Protected Areas and Wetland Reserves.
It warned that “any person found venturing inside these Wetland Conservation Reserves illegally without valid permission shall be dealt with sternly under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.”
