JAMMU, Mar 11: The Mahashivratri Mela at Peer Kho Cave Temple concluded with a showcase of unparalleled strength and velour during the grand finale event of the “Jamwant Gufa Peer Kho Kesari Dangal-2024”. Over 100 wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi displayed their prowess in an electrifying competition, honoring ancient traditions and athleticism.
Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Secretary, General Administration Department, J&K, was the Chief Guest of the event while Sunaina Sharma Mehta, Joint Director Tourism, Jammu, Shoket Hayat Mattoo, Deputy Director Tourism, Peer Rajinder Nath Mahant Peerkho Temple, Mahant Karan Nath and Shashi Khajuria, Senior Sevadar were also present.
During the event, Sanjeev Verma reminisced about the tradition of organizing the Dangal event during the Mahashivratri festival at Peer Kho Cave Temple Jammu, which began during his tenure as Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
The highly anticipated event of Dangal saw wrestler Kulveer from Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, emerge as the winner by displaying exceptional skill, determination and physical prowess. His remarkable performance earned him the prestigious title of the winner of the Jamwant Gufa Peer Kho Kesari Dangal, 2024. In addition to his triumph, wrestler Kulveer was awarded a grand prize of Rs 75,000 along with the revered Gada, symbolizing the might of Lord Hanuman.
Wrestler Krishna from Jawali, Himachal Pradesh won runner-up trophy and was rewarded with a prize of Rs 50,000. The Jamwant Gufa Peer Kho Kesari Dangal, 2024, not only celebrated the physical prowess of its participants but also served as a testament to the enduring legacy of cultural heritage and sporting excellence.
