JAMMU, Feb 26: Dr. Tej Pratap, Vice Chancellor, Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir, called on Governor N. N.Vohra, who is Chancellor of the University, at Raj Bhavan here today.
Dr. Tej Pratap briefed the Governor about the projected J&K Agriculture Science Congress being hosted by SKUAST-K, research work being carried out in the different wings of the University and at its Research Centres, for enhancing the agricultural production and productivity in the State.
A delegation of the Regional Committee of the International Red Cross, New Delhi, led by Mary Werntz also called on Mr Vohra.
The delegation thanked the Governor for his strong support to the activities being carried out by the Red Cross Society in the J&K and also briefed him about the various programmes being run by the ICRC in the State and the initiatives it has been taking in reaching out to the people affected by calamities.
Ms. Werntz was accompanied by Christina Bym, Team Leader Kashmir, and Beata Skwarska, Team Leader Jammu.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Bogdang village, from Nobra in Leh, led by Abdul Ali, Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, called on Mr Vohra.
The 7 person delegation apprised the Governor about the varied hardships being faced by the local population in the remote parts of Nobra particularly the lack of connectivity, educational opportunities, employment avenues etc. The delegation demanded State Government’s support for building the requisite facilities for exploiting the agricultural potential of this remote area and for fostering tourism.
The Governor assured the delegation of all possible support for the development of Bogdang.
