SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the North Kashmir constituency of the Lok Sabha elections-2024, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, today said that Omar Abdullah has to answer to the people for breaking the PAGD, as well as for the performance of the party’s MPs in Parliament.

Addressing media persons in north Kashmir’s Baramulla after a meeting with party workers, Mir said that instead of making huge claims about the fight against the abrogation of Article 370, Omar has to explain the role their MPs played in Parliament.
“As there will be a contest, it’s crucial for the people to be the ultimate decision-makers. They must assess the performance of the three MPs sent to Parliament and consider their achievements. Moreover, Omar has to answer to the people for breaking the PAGD coalition,” he said.
Mir stated that Omar earlier claimed that the three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir are with the INDIA alliance and that there is no need to discuss it further.
“Mehbooba ji did not speak about it; in other parts of the country, parties were consulted before seat sharing. But there was arrogance on the part of the NC; they did not prefer consulting us and pronounced their decision,” he said.
He added that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti wanted a united fight to regain what was taken from J&K on August 5, 2019, noting that the party will go to the people regarding what was taken away in 2019 and the ways and means to regain it.
“There are a number of issues that people are facing. Since 2019, Mehbooba has been reaching out to these leaders, urging them to unite in the fight to reclaim what was taken from us. She wants a united effort to regain what was snatched from us. Our election agenda will focus on what was taken from us and how to regain it.”
Mir said that people know everything, and precisely who is behind which party. “BJP has not fielded their candidate here in the North. What does that mean? They are counting these seats as well in their total of 400 paar.”
On the question of the role played by different parties in Kashmir since 2019, Mir stated that people are well aware of each party’s actions, the issues they raised, “and which party betrayed the PAGD; there definitely is a contest and we are leaving it to the people.”
He mentioned that two presidents of two parties are fighting the PDP in North Kashmir and that he was hopeful that people will consider Mehbooba’s performance over the years during which she raised people’s issues.
“Sajad’s father was a minister; he himself was a minister; Omar’s grandfather served as the Prime Minister, then as the Chief Minister. Following in his footsteps, Omar’s father held the position of Chief Minister; Omar himself was the Chief Minister unlike me,” he said.
