JAMMU, Apr 18: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary and a senior Sikh leader of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, has issued appeal to the Sikh community, urging them to vote in favor of the Congress and INDI Alliance candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized the importance of this decision in light of recent developments that have marginalized the voices of Sikhs in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today, Tony highlighted the unjust actions taken by the BJP Government, which have undermined the rights and representation of the Sikh community. He strongly anguished the decision to reserve constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, effectively silencing the voices of Sikh voters.
Tony expressed deep concern over the recent amendment to The Nanded Sikh Gurudwara Sachkhand Sri Hazur Apchalnagar Sahib Act, 1956, by the BJP Government in Maharashtra, terming this action as a clear betrayal and backstabbing of the Sikh community, which has historically held Nanded Sahib in high regard. He emphasized the sense of betrayal felt by Sikhs across the country, citing instances such as the issuance of the “Hitlar Shahi Farhman” on February 8, 2024, as evidence of the BJP Government’s disregard for Sikh interests.
In light of these developments, the senior Congress leader called for unity among the Sikh community and urged them to vote for the Congress and INDI Alliance candidate as a means of safeguarding their interests and rights. He emphasized that it is imperative to remove the BJP from power in order to protect the rights of minorities and uphold the principles of democracy in India.
