JAMMU, Mar 6: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu’s Division of Vegetable Science and Floriculture organized one-day training programme at Experimental farm, Chatha.
Main focus of the training was to impart technical information to the farmers particularly of the dry land belt of Dhiansar who are interested to diversify their traditional farm practices through vegetable production.
Dr R K Samnotra, Professor & Head (Vegetable Science), urged upon the farmers to grow eco-friendly early vegetables while Dr Satesh Kumar stressed upon the cultivation of hybrid vegetables at low soil water regime. They also emphasized on growing of already proven hybrid procured from authentic sources.
Dr Sandeep Chopra briefed about weed control in crops while Dr Sanjeev Kumar gave a practical demonstration of growing nursery. Dr R K Pandey discussed the agronomic practices of cut and loose flowers while Dr Mahinder Singh and Dr Jai Kapoor gave a brief introduction about the cultivation practices of the farmers and the role of NICRA in Dry Land Agriculture. Seed kits were later on distributed amongst the farmers along with hybrid seedlings of summer vegetables.
