SAMBA, May 5: Chandan Football Club defeated R S Bhadwal Football Club Kathua by 2-0 to win the Football Championship held at Ramlila Ground Thaloura Mandi in Samba district today.
The football competition was organized by the local youth in Thalora Mandi for children Under the age of 15 years. DSP HQ Samba Bhisham Dubey inaugurated the Championship along with SHO Samba Sandeep Charak in presence of many other dignitaries.
A total of eight teams from districts Samba, Kathua and Jammu participated in the competition, each team had nine players. Matches were conducted between all the teams and due to better performance, 2 out of 8 teams Chandan Football Club and RS Bhadwal Club Kathua came forward to face each other in the final.
In the final match, the players of Chandan Football Club maintained their dominance over the other team and in the first half; Aniket Sambyal gave the team the lead by scoring a goal. In the second half also, Shubham Kumar of Chandan Football Club scored another goal to give the team a 2-0 lead due to which Chandan Club captured the final trophy.
BJP leader and former Minister Surjit Singh Slathia honoured the winner and runner-up players by giving them prizes. Slathia encouraged the local youth for organizing the tournament. He said that these children will go ahead and showcase their game on the big field and will bring glory to the area along with their parents.
On this occasion, many youth including former Sarpanch Varinder Singh Lucky, Subhash Singh, Gautam Singh, Vikas Sambyal, Rajeshwar Singh Bikka, Shiv Lal Manyal, Aman Sambyal, Anant Sambyal, Bhavik Sambyal were also present.
