Hangloo, Mahesh Kaul conferred awards

JAMMU, May 5: A group of Kashmiri Pandits meet 70th Shankaracharya, of Kanchi, Sri Sankara Vijyendra Saraswati and discussed various issues with him.
The team of KPs who called on Shankaracharya Ji included Ramesh Hangloo, Head and CEO, Radio Sharda and Dr.Mahesh Kaul, Kashmir Trika Shaiva Scholar and Strategic Expert. They appraised him about the prevailing conditions in Jammu and Kashmir and the problems faced the exiled Kashmiri Pandits. Ramesh Hangloo informed him “Need is to preserve the Vedic culture and sensitise the masses about upholding the cultural moorings of Kashmir. The need is to start the cultural movement of entire nation for restoring ancient Kashmir, he added.”
Dr.Mahesh Kaul, while appraising him about the need to reclaim the place consciousness of Kashmir said,“ The need is to Re-Sanskritise Kashmir, restore its place consciousness and aesthetics by creating a national policy for preservation and conservation of ancient monuments and temples that have been vandalised and reduced to ruins. Besides, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive policy to make return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits possible on their own terms that is based on their political empowerment, socio-economic empowerment and religious freedom in Kashmir. It must address the reversal of Kashmiri Pandit religious cleansing.”
Sri Vijyebndra Saraswati Swami assured that he is well aware of the persecution and problems faced by the Kashmiri Pandits. Kanchi Kamakoti has been in the forefront of the efforts meant to empower Kashmiri Pandits in exile. Kanchi Math has been working on the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits with the Dharmic consciousness as the corner stone. There is a need to work on the primary research on the Dharmic contributions of the Kashmiri Pandit scholars and the historians to correct the narrative about Kashmir.
To acknowledge the services rendered for preserving and upholding the cultural moorings of Kashmir through his popular Radio Sharda, Ramesh Hangloo was conferred the title of Sharda Putra and Dr.Mahesh Kaul was conferred the title of Vitasta Putra for his contributions in the field of Kashmir Shaiv Trika philosophy and heritage preservation by the Saraswathi Educational Cultural and Charitable Trust, Chennai during the 20 the Vasant Utsav organised in the Kapaleshwar Temple, Mylapore Chennai. Citations giving the detailed account of their achievements were also read and they were honoured with the Kashi Nath Gariyali Memorial award.
